Wow! Over 80,000 signatures in less than a week! Thank you so much for standing up for tea farmers with me. We’re really showing Sainsbury’s just how much support there is for Fairtrade. And the campaign seems to be gathering momentum quickly.
Yesterday Oxfam and CAFOD campaigners were protesting outside Sainsbury’s AGM in Westminster to make it clear to the Sainsbury’s board and shareholders that trouble is brewing. Oxfam, CAFOD and concerned shareholders all questioned the board at the meeting, demanding to know why Sainsbury’s is dropping Fairtrade when it’s the most well-known gold standard certification and accusing them of a power grab. You can read the press coverage in the Guardian here: http://bit.ly/2utfqkK and watch CAFOD’s Facebook live-stream of the protest here: http://bit.ly/2st4x16
CEO Mike Coupe has now been publicly questioned in front of his board. We need to keep piling the pressure on and proving to him none of his customers want ‘Fairly Traded’ tea. So please share the petition with your friends and family, and let’s get to over 100,000 signatures by Friday!
