SAI ANIMAL LOVERSALL OVER THE WORLD, Indien
22.04.2018
In India, animal lovers feeding or caring for strays are met with unbelievable hatred since strays are seen as a threat. However, there are some rules put forward by the Constitution of India in favour of the voiceless and those who are working towards the welfare of these animals:
1. The Delhi High Court states that there are no laws that prohibit people from feeding stray animals.
2. It is a criminal offense to feed poisonous food to stray animals.
3. It is illegal to maim or cause any injury to any animal.
4. No sterilized dogs can be relocated from their area
5. The Animal Welfare Board of India issues IDs for people who feed stray animals.
6. The implementation of these rules largely depend on the NGOs.
Even though these laws exist, the Ashram dogs are ill treated, beaten and poisoned. Furthermore, people caring for the dogs are harassed and stalked. We wish to create a safe environment for animals as well as people living in the Ashram. We simply wish to be able to care for the dogs and give them a good life while at the same time feel safe and not be harassed. Surprisingly, large efforts are made to make life unbearable and unsafe for both dogs and the people caring for them. Volunteers at the Ashram have told horrible stories of being stalked and threatened. They have found numerous dogs dead and poisoned. But we will not accept this. We do not succumb to threats. We will keep fighting for animal rights, rights secured by the law. We will not accept that people continuously break the law. By signing this petition, you help us fight animal cruelty and hatred towards dogs and further support our wish to use our rights as secured by the law to feed and care for dogs. To do this, we need your help to stand up to the minority of people opposed to the dogs. Speak up if you see someone ill treat a dog but do not seek conflict.
The dogs at the Ashram pose no threats to humans. They are sterilized and vaccinated against rabies and other diseases and their health is checked continuously. Thus you have nothing to fear from the dogs. What we want is to be left in peace to tend to the dogs.
Traditionally, animal rights are secured by NGOs. However, the NGOs in the area fail to meet this responsibility and even work against securing the welfare of stray dogs.
