The Issue

This plea comes from a deeply personal place. A young girl loved by so many  known for her kindness smile and just being a true asset to her family and little sister  , she was struck  by a car on Friday 28th June while using the zebra crossing on her way to her  school Charles Dickens in Broadstairs, As friends and family  continue to support Maicey and her family it becomes evident that immediate actions are needed to prevent such incidents in future.

It is time we enhance the safety measures at zebra crossings, especially those located near schools. In the UK alone, there were an alarming number of 23,253 pedestrian casualties reported in 2019, with children accounting for a significant portion (Department for Transport, UK). A safer environment will help ensure that our children can commute to and from school without fear.

We demand that local authorities urgently reassess the efficacy of current safety measures at zebra crossings. This includes evaluating the visibility of crosswalks, deploying traffic wardens during peak hours, conducting regular maintenance checks, and enforcing stricter traffic rules.

Let's work together to ensure safety at all zebra crossings, particularly around school areas, so that no more young lives are put at risk. Please, sign this petition. Your support can make a difference.
