Safety cannot wait

Safety cannot wait
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are calling for urgent action to address ongoing anti-social and criminal behaviour at Southend Airport Retail Park.
For an extended period, businesses and members of the public have been subjected to repeated incidents involving groups of youths engaging in:
Harassment and intimidation of staff and customers
Theft from retail stores
Damage to stock and property
Verbal abuse and threatening behaviour
Knife-related threats causing serious fear and distress
Retail employees — many of whom are young workers — are increasingly anxious about their safety. Customers have expressed concerns about visiting the retail park, and businesses are suffering both financially and emotionally as a result.
Although the police have attended incidents when called, the recurring nature of this behaviour demonstrates a need for stronger preventative measures and visible deterrents before someone is seriously harmed.
We Are Calling For:
A dedicated on-site security presence at the retail park
Increased and regular police patrols
The use of dispersal powers where appropriate
Stronger collaboration between police, local authorities, property management, and community safety teams
A clear safety action plan communicated to businesses and the public
The retail park should be a safe environment for workers, shoppers, and families. Immediate action is needed to restore safety, confidence, and community wellbeing.
We respectfully urge the relevant authorities and stakeholders to take this matter seriously and implement effective measures without delay.
Sign below to support improved safety and protection at Southend Airport Retail Park.
