“Veterans with treatment-resistant PTSD & TBI often fail multiple pharma drugs that leave them ‘zombified’.
Yet real-world evidence tells a different story:
- Israeli combat veterans saw significant drops in PTSD symptoms, hyperarousal & better sleep with medicinal cannabis (Nacasch et al., 2023).
- Canadian veterans in the VECTOR registry reported reduced PTSD severity, suicidal ideation & pain.
- Longitudinal studies show cannabis users were 2.5x more likely to no longer meet PTSD criteria after 1 year.
Why? The endocannabinoid system regulates fear extinction, stress & inflammation — exactly what trauma disrupts.
Plant medicine doesn’t fit old single-molecule RCT designs, but lived experience + observational data from veterans does.
DVA funds MDMA, psilocybin & yoga — time to fund supervised medicinal cannabis & collect Australian veteran outcomes too.
If we truly want better veteran health outcomes, the conversation must focus on evidence, education, and patient stability — not stigma.
