Petition updateSafe crossings on Blackshaws Road

A new crossing is about to be built but I need your help again: sign the new Joint Letter

A few months ago, more than 450 people signed this petition calling for safe crossings on Blackshaws Road.

Thank you. Your support made a difference.  Following that petition, Melissa Horne MP announced a safety upgrade to the new South Kingsville crossing. Construction on this raised wombat crossing is  now about to begin (see the  site of the construction in the photo)

Now there's another opportunity to get a safe crossing on Blackshaws Road at the new Fabric Drive intersection in Altona North.

The Fabric Drive intersection was designed in 2022, but Hobsons Bay City Council decided to leave out the required pedestrian and bike crossing, connecting to the bike path, on the western side of the intersection. The main reason they gave for this was that the existing industrial driveway on the neighbouring property was in the way.

But after a safety audit was completed, the entire intersection design could not proceed because of that driveway. So,  that driveway is now being relocated, removing the reason Council originally gave for leaving out the crossing.

I'm now asking Hobsons Bay City Council to complete the intersection properly by including the missing pedestrian crossing, safety refuge and bike path connection.

If you supported this campaign before, I'd really appreciate your support again.

Please sign my new joint letter to Hobsons Bay City Council (this is in a Google Form to satisfy Council's requirement to provide an email address with petition and joint letter signees).

You can follow the campaign on the P15 Neighbourhood Alliance page

Thank you again for supporting efforts to make Blackshaws Road safe for cyclists and pedestrians.

Rowena 😊
