Thank you all so much for your ongoing support of this petition. Grid operators just formally requested to extend the life of the Brandon Shores and H.A. Wagner plants until May 2031, six years past their original shutdown date.
This isn't just a local issue. The fallout impacts families across Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Harford County:
The Health Cost: Neighbors downwind will continue to breathe harmful emissions for five more years.
The Financial Cost: BGE ratepayers across these counties are footing the bill for a massive transmission line project that has doubled in cost to $1.5 billion—largely to support out-of-state data center growth.
What we are doing about it: Federal regulators (FERC) are voting on this by early August. In exactly one week, we are formally submitting this petition and all 270+ of your signatures directly into the official federal dockets (Nos. ER24-1790 and ER24-1787). They are legally required to review them.
