Safe and Accessible Transportation to the Medical Center

Safe and Accessible Transportation to the Medical Center
The Issue
As residents of Houston who rely on Metro for transportation, we are concerned about the safety of our daily commutes. The current system requires passengers to transfer from Metro buses to trains in order to reach the Medical Center, which has become increasingly unsafe and dangerous.
According to a recent survey conducted by our community group, 90% of passengers who use this route work in the Medical Center. This means that a large portion of Houston's workforce is at risk every day due to inadequate transportation options.
We demand that all Metro Park and Rides offer direct services to and from the Medical Center. This will not only ensure safer travel for commuters but also reduce congestion on our roads. Currently, there are 25 Park and Ride lots, which have 4 shuttles that go directly into the Medical Center: Kingwood, Katy, Conroe, and the Woodlands Express.
We want to see other Park and Ride routes such as the Spring, Kuykendahl , Eastex, Townsend and Shepard added to this list of services as well. At the very least at least ONE Park and Ride Shuttle that offers a direct route into and out of the Medical Center.
Furthermore, we call on Metro officials to take immediate action in addressing safety concerns on their trains. Passengers have reported NUMEROUS incidents such as harassment, theft, and verbal assault, sexual assault, stalking, and threats of violence while riding these trains without any protection or assistance from Metro staff, train conductors, or the Metro Police.
There are camera installed in each cart as well as the train driver's cart, and they ignore all off the chaos on the trains and do nothing, this is unacceptable! Since Metro will not do anything about this ongoing problem, we need to reach out to Mayor Sylvester Turner and Current Metro CEO Tom Lambert and the others on the Metro Board of Directors.
Metro provides no safety measures at any of the Metro Rail stops, only after a tragedy has already happened. With the increasing amount of transients and homeless people whom continue to make trouble for passengers on a daily bases to and from work it is getting insufferable. There are no "Ticket enforcers" present, and people are constantly hoping the train without paying a fee.
It is time for Metro officials to prioritize the safety and accessibility of their services for all Houstonians. We urge you to sign this petition and join us in demanding change from our public transportation system.
