Thank you for the petition submitted on the change.org website about motorcycle theft.
I would like to assure you that the Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) are both committed to detecting, disrupting and arresting those involved in motorcycle theft and motorcycle enabled crime.
To this end, the MPS have launched Operation Venice to specifically target motorcycle theft and motorcycle enabled crime. This involves mass checks on parked up motorcycles, raids on individuals suspected of stealing motorcycles or using them to commit crimes, high visibility patrols in key areas and using ANPR to identify stolen vehicles.
The MPS also works closely with the motorcycle industry to make vehicles harder to steal and provides advice to motorcycle owners about how to improve the security of their vehicles.
In addition, the London boroughs of Islington, Camden and the City of London established Operation Attrition, which is a local MPS operation specifically to combat motorcycle enabled crime.
I hope that my response reassures you how seriously the MPS and MOPAC takes motorcycle theft and enabled crime.
