We would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support in sharing and signing our petition.
Words cannot describe how grateful and appreciative we are because thanks to you, hundreds of women, men and their children’s voices are being heard. With your help, we hope that the government and authorities with a duty of care will finally listen to us, look at all our evidence and finally investigate Housing for Women Housing Association. If the government and authorities continue to turn a blind eye, there will be more deaths, more short life expectancy, more hospitalisations, more poverty and debt and many more traumatised women, men and children who will need years of therapy, there will be more fires and more lives ruined.
However, we still have a long way to go. Unfortunately neither the government nor authorities are taking our concerns seriously. Residents continue to suffer with domestic abuse, hate crime, health and safety hazards continues to be ignored, vulnerable residents continue to be let down and ignored, with no support, no help and still living in unsafe homes and buildings. Repairs are still being ignored with residents being forced to live in death traps due to flammable balconies not being replaced as well as other serious fire safety breaches including issues with the cladding, repairs relating to leaks with damp and mouldy homes, cracked ceilings and walls ignored, pest infestations, broken doors and door handles, unsafe windows, risks of arson being ignored due to security breaches, lifts constantly breaking down and not being repaired in a timely manner, residents being left without heating and hot water due to HfW neglecting their communal boiler maintenance for long periods while not providing residents with temporary heaters or blankets, calls and emails not being returned back by staff, complaints being ignored, staff and contractors not following the COVID-19 guidelines and concerns about waking watch and the new temporary alarm system issues being ignored and not addressed. These are just some of the issues.
This week, The South London Press spoke to some of our long suffering residents about the issues they have been living with. We would like to thank the SLP for listening to our residents and publishing their cases. However, there are many more households in different London boroughs going through similar or worse issues who are not able to speak out due to fear. HfW are known to make life hell for those who speak out or report them. The CEO of HfW gave a statement that was inaccurate and misleading by claiming it was in some instances that they failed. We all know this is a lie as we all have evidence of this going back to 2010. These are not isolated incidents and the fact that the CEO is using the pandemic as an excuse to justify putting residents at risk and harm while the government states that repairs and inspections can continue during lockdown, just proves how dangerous HfW are.
We need help from the press and media to expose this scandal that has been going on for over ten years. Please continue to share our petition and ask your family and friends to sign and share too. Without your help, we will not be taken seriously and the government and authorities will do nothing, like they have been for over ten years. Please help us. Thank you.
