We have been a long time waiting for a win. So when something good happens we should celebrate loudly.
A few weeks ago I was involved in a bitter Twitter fight between the ABD, Rod King of 20's Plenty, Councillor Zaffar of Birmingham Council all copying in the Transport Secretary.
At issue, a possible area wide 20mph policy. I reasoned that it makes no sense to artificially slow traffic when speeds were above 24mph naturally.
To my positive surprise, Cllr Zaffar has now been sent a letter from Government to this effect.
I cannot be sure if it was the Twitter threat or more likely DfT internal guidance that made the difference, as my comments were based on a report by an adviser to the DfT. Yet on this occasion, 20's Plenty have lost and are crying because it means their goal of '20 by 2020' will have passed without the default limit falling to 20mph.
This should embolden us to think the fight is not futile and this battle can be fought authority by authority, street by street.
Please join me in making noises on Twitter, even a few more supporters actively pursuing the agenda makes a difference to perceptions of the debate!
