Sacramento Kings: Reclaim Our Team - Demand New Ownership

Sacramento Kings: Reclaim Our Team - Demand New Ownership
The Issue
For over a decade, we, the fiercely loyal fans of the Sacramento Kings, have endured a painful decline under Vivek Ranadivé's ownership. The 24-58 record in the 2020-2021 season, the endless playoff drought since 2006, and the repeated, agonizing missteps have shattered our hopes and broken our hearts. Remember the gut-wrenching 2022 trade that sent Tyrese Haliburton to the Indiana Pacers? The devastating decision to pass on Luka Dončić in the 2018 draft? The revolving door of coaches—Dave Joerger, Luke Walton, and others—leaving us with nothing but instability and a shattered dream of a winning culture?
The once vibrant Golden 1 Center, a symbol of our city's $558 million investment in hope, now echoes with empty seats. Local businesses, like Echo & Rig Steakhouse & Butcher Shop and Polanco Cantina, struggle as game-night crowds dwindle, impacting the very heart of our downtown. The city's tax revenue bleeds, and planned developments stall, all because our team has been mismanaged. Longtime season ticket holders, those who remember the glory days of ARCO Arena, are now turning their backs, their loyalty finally exhausted.
Local youth basketball programs, once fueled by the Kings' inspiration, see fewer and fewer kids dreaming of wearing the purple and black. The "Here We Stay" movement, once a rallying cry of unwavering support, has been replaced by a crushing sense of disillusionment. We've watched years of wasted potential, years of heartbreak, as our team has declined.
"I used to bring my kids to every game," says Maria Garcia, a season ticket holder since 1999. "Now, it's just too painful to watch. The empty seats, the constant losing… it's like watching a part of our city die."
We, the heartbroken and fiercely loyal fans, demand a transparent and public review of the Sacramento Kings' ownership and management. We demand the NBA facilitate the sale of the team to an ownership group with a proven track record of success and a genuine commitment to the city of Sacramento. The Kings' consistently abysmal television ratings on national broadcasts diminish our city's visibility and undermine the NBA's revenue-sharing system. The lack of playoff appearances denies Sacramento the economic boost and exposure of hosting playoff games. The endless cycle of hiring and firing coaches under Ranadivé’s ownership screams of a deeper, systemic problem.
We implore the NBA, headquartered in New York, to recognize that the problem is not the coaches, but the leadership at the top. We urge you to sign this petition, share it with every Kings fan you know, and contact your local representatives to express your concerns. Together, we can reclaim our Sacramento Kings and restore pride to our city. Boycott Kings merchandise until changes are made. We will not be silent. We will not give up. We will fight to bring back the Kings we deserve.
