Salim Mehajer personally applied for a filming permit to partially close Frances St, Lidcombe during his wedding, an investigation by The Australian has revealed.
This puts doubts on claims that he was not responsible or aware of the illegal obstruction of the street which was totally closed to two way traffic in breach of the Council permit.
Condition 5 of Road Occupancy License agreement clearly states that: "At least 6.0 metres width of roadway adjacent to the site shall be left open for two way traffic. Please
note that full closure of the road will NOT be allowed."
As Deputy Mayor, the community expects that its Councillors uphold Council's own regulations and State traffic laws. Salim Mehajer needs to be sacked for his blatant abuse of power and continued lies toward the Auburn community.
Council's $220 fine is also a significant discount for the multi-millionaire Councillor as if Salim Mehajer had properly applied for a 'high impact' permit, the fee would have been $3020.
Questions need to also be asked as to whether Council gave Salim Mehajer special treatment (expedited processing) as the filming permit was applied on 14th August 2015, the day before his wedding.
Despite that approval being provided on 14th August, a two-page flyer distributed to all homes in the street three days earlier told residents “all entry will be blocked TOTALLY” on the wedding day and cars parked in the street “will be towed and removed by police as per DA approval”.
That flyer included a detailed “traffic control plan”, a detailed document that indicated all of Frances Street was to be shut down, with detours at each end.
