Auburn LGA and Lidcombe Residents Call for the sacking of Auburn Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer 17/08/2015 Sack Salim Mehajer from Auburn Council FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 17/08/2015 Auburn LGA and Lidcombe Residents Call for the sacking of Auburn Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer Lidcombe, NSW: Today, the ‘Sack Salim Mehajer from Auburn Council’ campaign has formally notified The Hon Paul Toole (NSW Local Government Minister) and Auburn City Council of a community petition requesting immediate action to dismiss Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer from council. We represent a growing sentiment in the Auburn LGA and Lidcombe community that the attitude and actions of and condoned by Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer has once again grievously crossed the line of an honest, considerate and law-abiding elected representative that serves with integrity. By not only refusing to take responsibility for his actions and also to condone disruptive, arrogant and potentially illegal practices as a councillor highlights the extent to which he is unfit for political office. For Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer to illegally block off a street for his private use speaks loudly of the lack of respect that he and his wedding organisers pay to the laws of the state. And also for Salim Mehajer not to condemn threats to tow residents cars from Frances St, Lidcombe gives strong indication that he supports the unlawful actions of car theft. As the Deputy Mayor of Auburn, Salim Mehajer should be a person that not only acts but also appears to be without contempt for the rule of law and democracy. To also wilfully obstruct traffic in the middle of Parramatta Road near Strathfield to party following the disruption and wastage of police time and resources in Lidcombe again demonstrates that Salim Mehajer has no or very little regard for the general public. We have referred this matter in relation to traffic and parking violations to Auburn Police and the Flemington LAC for consideration. Auburn City Council’s credibility to issue parking and traffic infringement notices is also at risk as a result of the poor example that Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer has set. We once again call on The Hon Paul Toole (NSW Local Government Minister) and Auburn City Council to sack Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer. Any suggestion that our community campaign is a reaction to Salim Mehajer’s ethnic background or religion is unfounded and completely without basis.
