Save the Sunken Gardens in St Peter Port, Guernsey !
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are appalled at the latest planning application submitted by the States of Guernsey Committee for Education, Sport and Leisure for the changes to the Sunken Gardens on the former site of St Paul's Church in St Peter Port in Guernsey, Channel Islands, and for the island's primary War Memorial to be moved into the gardens on a less prominent site below St James Concert Hall.
The Sunken Gardens have, for the past few decades, provided a welcome green and peaceful oasis in the centre of St Peter Port and should be preserved as they are.
The plans to move the War Memorial, which has admirably served its purpose for almost a hundred years in its existing high-profile and very visible site, is an insult to all those to whom the memorial is dedicated and to all those descendants whose forefathers' names have been inscribed on the memorial.
