We're so humbled (and excited!) by the outpouring of support we've seen in the past 2 weeks. Over 8,500 of you have signed our petition. And we now have over 40 co-signing organizations.
Probably the biggest news of the week has been the strong statement of support from the Boston Cyclists' Union. "Losing mature trees, even though Boston plans to plant new young ones in their place, would be a major blow to an area where more than 90% of residents are non-white, and where residents already face disproportionately poor air quality and the urban heat island effect." This week we also have received support from MassBike and WalkBoston. With LivableStreets Alliance's past support, we now have the backing from many of Boston's major alternative transportation groups.
What can you do next?
1) We've begun fundraising. FMCB leader Kay Mathews started a FB fundraiser. You can donate here.
2) Our goal is to continue to push the city to hold a public hearing for these trees. We are aiming to reach 10,000 signers by Friday. Just 1,400 more to go! Please help by sharing our petition, https://www.change.org/Save_MCB_Trees
3) Finally, please welcome our newest co-signing orgs listed below. Know of another org interested in joining? They can do so at https://forms.gle/Jw5zPWZbWbCe9kgN6
4) We'll be sharing more updates in the days to come. Stay tuned...
