Dear Ruth Thompson, Director of The A.N.N.A Shelter in Erie, PA,

We, the undersigned, ask you to protect all animals and speak out against declawing, educate the public about the humane alternatives, and not perform low cost declaws at your WELLNESS CENTERS. The ANNA Shelter's Cheapest Declaw in Town

An animal shelter’s mission is to protect and advocate for companion animals in need, to ease the pain and suffering in animals, and to promote the humane treatment of animals through education, advocacy and services.

Declawing is the opposite of all those ideals.

Declawing an inhumane and barbaric amputation procedure that always harms the long term health and well-being of a cat, it is cruel,  it is an act of mutilation, it is animal cruelty, it causes pain and suffering, and it is unnecessary.

There are many declawed kitties in Pennsylvania who were thrown away because of behavioral issues they developed from their toe bone amputations.

There are no studies or proof that declawing helps keep a cat in a home, in fact the opposite has been proven.

Please protect the health and well-being of cats and stop performing this inhumane, mutilating, and very unnecessary procedure.

Declawing is the amputation of a cat's last toe bone and claw. Declawing is performed at the ANNA WELLNESS Centers despite it having absolutely no benefit to the cat and despite it being bad for the welfare of ALL cats.

Cats deserve better.

Please stop declawing and provide brochures and information about the humane alternatives like nail trims, sturdy scratchers, scratching pads, and Soft Paws. Please educate cat owners about the awful truth about declawing so they stop asking for this barbaric and harmful procedure for their beloved cats.

It's time for you to be strong and be a true HUMANE leader in animal welfare and protection. We will celebrate your bravery in leading the way to a better world for cats.
