Apparently, Rosenthal attempted to direct the film in the style of the original with virtually no onscreen bloodshed, yet Carpenter thought that the film needed the extra gore effects to compete with the contemporary gore-fests like Friday the 13th (1980) and The Burning (1981). Garrett, Bud and Karen, Jill and Jimmy, etc. The sequel was intended to conclude the story of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. The score was performed on a synthesizer organ rather than a piano. While many television or director edits of pre-existing films don’t typically alter a film too drastically, the television cut of Halloween II is actually far superior to the theatrical cut (which I obviously didn’t care for; see above) and manages to be quite entertaining. Donald Pleasence as Dr. He accused Carpenter and Hill of not believing in this project the way they believed in the original, and it shows in the final product. The water was also pretty dirty and I ended up with an ear infection. Halloween II was first released on VHS and laserdisc in 1982 by MCA/Universal Home Video and later by Goodtimes Home Video. The relationship with Laurie and Lance Guest’s EMT Jimmy is further fleshed out and Jimmy’s fate is completely different in the television cut’s alternate ending, which actually gives the Jimmy character a reason to exist in the film (which was completely lacking in the theatrical cut). The characters’ indifference to the impending terror (until the last 15-minutes or so) is one of the main reasons that Halloween II feels to sterile, impotent, and.yes.unscary. Anchor Bay and Shout! Although Halloween II had a much larger budget than the first film ($2.5 million to the original’s shoestring $300,000), it actually looks much cheaper, and is comparable in style to (you guessed it! Catherine Bergstrom as Producer Carpenter and Debra Hill would return to produce and script this sequel, but Carpenter declined to direct the film as he later admitted that he wasn’t fully invested in another Myers saga. Halloween II was impelled by the desire to make money. Stylistically, Halloween II reproduces certain key elements that made the original Halloween a success, such as first-person camera perspectives and unexceptional settings, and the film picks up right at the end of the cliffhanger ending of the original movie. Anyway, that and the head tilt were the things I carried with me into Halloween II. I had no influence over the direction of the film. Laurie begins having flashbacks of being adopted by the Strodes and visiting a boy in a mental institution. However, her sedation leaves her in a semi-conscious state most of the time.
