Write to your MP
Apr 25, 2016 — Thank you for all your messages following my most recent update.
So many of you have asked if I could draft a template letter that you could use to contact your MP and ask them to support the campaign for Helen’s Law.
I’ve included some thoughts below. Really hope this helps. Go to this link to find your MP's contact information:
Thank you again for your support. I can’t tell you how much it means.
I’ll be sure to bring you regular updates.
All best wishes
Suggested points for your letter:
- I am one of the 339,000 people who have signed the petition on change.org for Helen’s Law (change.org/Helenslaw).
- The campaign has been established by Mrs Marie McCourt of Billinge, Lancs. Her daughter, Helen, aged 22, was murdered in February 1988 but her body has never been found. Her killer Ian Simms was convicted on the grounds of overwhelming forensic evidence and is serving life imprisonment. To this day he refuses to reveal where Helen is.
- [insert your own paragraph here about your experience or why you signed this petition]
- Mrs McCourt’s supportive MP Conor McGinn (St Helens North) will be raising the issue in the House of Commons in October. Please ask Mr Gove to reserve making a judgement until this issue has been debated fully. Please can you raise my concerns as a matter of urgency and keep me updated.
