Petition updateLet’s All Opt In to Introduce the Opt Out Organ & Tissue Donation System

Wales releases it's first transplant figures under the Soft Opt Out system

Half a year ago Wales took the brave step and reformed their organ & tissue donation system from Opt-in to Soft Opt Out. The figures released of their first six months progress are even better than I could have imagined and just reinforce why I passionately believe all of the UK needs to be under the Soft Opt out system. 60 transplants were carried out in the 6 months in Wales, from over 31 donors and over half of them came from deemed consent donors! This means the total number of donors is up a whopping third compared to the same period last year (2014-2015) and the year prior (2013-2014) with only 23 donors last year and 21 the previous year! 10 of the donors in Wales during the past 6 months had given their explicit consent, Wales is currently not allowing families to overrule explicit consent unless their relative expressed a wish to opt-out but had not done so. The donors wishes are always foremost as this is their immediate will for their body. With over half of organs donated coming from deemed consent donors just think how many people on the waiting list could receive their lifesaving transplant! This is why we are doing this. Keep SHARING! Kindest regards Lucy Ryan
