Stop The Bird Rock Beach Coastline Reef Destruction & New Dolphinarium in St Kitts, W.I.

The Issue

On May 11, 2014, the groundbreaking, demolition and destruction of the existing thriving, living reef and marine life at, and adjacent to the Bird Rock Beach Hotel & Dive St. Kitts, (Lighthouse Holdings, LLC.) began.  This has had a huge impact on coastline of the Bird Rock Beach area, and surrounding ecosystems.    Under the direction of the owners, Larkland M Richards, a Kittitian Barrister, (Larkland M. Richards & Assoc.), & Diana S. Richards, (General Manager, St. Kitts Nevis Mortgage & Investment Co. Ltd.), this expansion project commenced WITHOUT permits issued, governmental approval, or an Environmental Impact Study having been performed.

This project does not appear to be in alignment with the purported objectives of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, (Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Llewellyn Douglas Prime Minister and Minister of Finance & Sustainable Development) OR in harmony with the guidelines established by the Caribbean Tourism Organization, a trade organization whose main objective is the development of sustainable tourism for the economic and social benefit of Caribbean people

Additionally, a lease-agreement was signed between Lighthouse Holdings, dba: Bird Rock Beach Hotel & Dive St. Kitts, with Controladora Dolphin, S.A. de C.V, Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico for the development of a DISCOVERY DOLPHIN PARK, a captive dolphin experience, targeted primarily to gain a market share of the cruise ship excursion business.

The deliberate destruction of the marine environment along the Bird Rock Coastline, the dumping of materials and the debris that was produced during the demolition phase of the pre-existing “Rocky’s Beach Bar” directly into the ocean, and the planned project objective of a captive cetacean facility is a direct contradiction to the humane efforts rising internationally by numerous political action groups and interest groups and is a detriment to the purported profile of ecological consciousness the governing body of St. Kitts has declared is a focus for sustainable development and must be stopped!    WE IMPLORE YOU TO TAKE IMMEDATE ACTION AGAINST THIS DESTRUCTIVE AND INHUMANE MARINE PROJECT WHICH CAN ONLY WEAKEN THE TOURISM SECTOR AND THUS THE APPEAL OF ST. KITTS AS A TRAVEL DESTINATION AND HAVE NEGATIVE ECONOMICAL IMPACT.
