Police have taken a 34-year-old man into custody following the death of a 54-year-old woman in Mareeba, Queensland. Her body was found this morning. A homicide investigation is underway. She is the 20th Australian woman killed this year. Last year we lost 79 women to violence - the year before 106 women were killed.
Police are urging anyone who was in the Downs Street area between 3.30pm on April 15 and 7.15am on April 16 (today) and who may have information or relevant vision, to come forward.
