I'm sitting here feeling baffled, confused, angry, disheartened. Just this past hour I have added another woman to my femicide projects. She was killed in July of last year, allegedly by her son. He has been charged today with her manslaughter. The 74-year-old unnamed woman is the 79th Australian woman killed in 2025 - and this year we have already lost (officially) 12 women but the toll is higher.
On July 1 of last year, emergency services attended the woman's home in Gordon, ACT. They found her in extremely poor health and horrid living conditions. Paramedics transported her to hospital, but she passed away the next day.
Police allege her 54-year-old so, who was the woman’s full-time carer, failed to provide adequate care over an extended period and failed to seek medical assistance for the woman despite her significant and worsening health conditions.
She is as-yet unidentified.
Seventy-nine. Let that number sit with you. 106 - also let that number sit with you (this is how many women were killed in 2024). Then add another 12. That's 198 women killed between January 1 of 2024 and today (March 10, 2026).
That's 198 daughters - for they are all daughters - taken from those they love. 198 daughters who will never laugh, cry, dance .... do anything again. That's 198 daughters mourned.
That's 198 women ignored by our Federal Government - Primer Minister Anthony Albanese continues to turn his eyes and mind away from our femicide epidemic. And that's what baffles me. How can he ignore this?
Would he turn his head away if 198 men were coward punched to death in such a short period of time. Would he ignore the killing of 198 sporting heroes? What would he say if 198 Australians died in a flash flood or a bushfire?
He would not be silent about their deaths - so why is he silent about the killing of Australian women?
Please help me get a Royal Commission into the Killing of Women and Girls - sign the petition (f you haven't already) and share it with your circle. The more voices we get the better chance we have of success!
