This petition is for the introduction of licensing for all properties privately rented in the Greenwich borough regardless of number of residents, floors in the building or households occupying the property. According to the statistics published by the council in total there are circa 20,000 properties rented privately across the borough.

A similar licensing requirement has been introduced in Newham, Croydon, Brent and other boroughs in the country.

The licensing scheme will deliver the following benefits to name a few:

• Improve housing conditions.
• Encourage higher rental standards.
• Tackle landlords who operate unlawfully.
• Reduce overcrowding.
• Improve neighbourhood.
