Justice for Roxy: Protect Our Community from Dangerous Dogs

 

On June 18, 2026, while out for a walk, our beloved dog Roxy and I were attacked by two pit bulls in our neighborhood, they jumped through an open window. In spite of everything she did to save me, Roxy died from her injuries the next day.

 

Roxy was more than a pet—she was a cherished member of our family. Losing her in such a violent, tragic, and preventable way has left us devastated and heartbroken.

 

This should never have happened, and it did happen at 997 East 460 South Provo Utah and Reports indicate these dogs had been seen running loose before, raising serious concerns about responsible ownership and public safety. I think these dogs need to be put down and so does the neighborhood. No family should have to fear walking around the block, letting their children play in the yard, walking to a car parked outside, or riding a bike in their own neighborhood. No one should have to endure the pain of losing a beloved family member because another person failed to properly train, contain, and control their dangerous dogs.

 

We are asking our local officials to:

 

Fully investigate this incident, including prior complaints, reports of the dogs running loose, witness statements, and the owners’ history of violations.

Determine whether these dogs should be formally classified as dangerous and require immediate safeguards, and not be returned to the owner.

Consistently enforce leash, fencing, and containment laws, with meaningful penalties for owners who allow dogs to roam or threaten others.

Increase fines for repeat violations, including doubling penalties for owners who have already been warned or cited.

Require owners of dangerous or aggressive dogs to use secure confinement, proper leashing, and any additional safety measures ordered by animal control or the court.

Hold owners financially accountable for veterinary costs, emergency response costs, and other damages caused by their dogs!

Notify nearby residents when a dog has been officially deemed dangerous so families can take appropriate precautions.

Review and strengthen local animal control procedures so future reports of loose or aggressive dogs are handled quickly and thoroughly. Increased penalties, and doubled fines, maybe even jail time for the owner!

 

This petition is not about attacking a specific breed. It is about responsible ownership and protecting our community from preventable tragedies. This attack was the most terrifying and violent thing I have ever witnessed, and it is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. And that’s the rest of my life without Roxy. Why do they get to keep their dogs and I don’t?! It’s not right, it’s not fair!

 

Roxy deserved to live. She deserved to run through the grass, ride in the car, and get so excited to see us that her whole body wiggled with joy. Her life mattered, and her story should lead to meaningful action. Roxy deserves justice.
