Keep Masks for Students, Teacher, and Staff at Round Rock ISD

Keep Masks for Students, Teacher, and Staff at Round Rock ISD
The Issue
While the state and city's mask mandate is changing, now is not the time to be changing a proven risk mitigation strategy in our schools. Sign this petition to keep the mask on our children, teachers, and staff to help mitigate the risk and spread of COVID-19 in our schools. Masking works best if everyone in an enclosed space wears a mask. Keeping the current Masking Requirements in our schools will help keep our children safe from contracting Covid-19, along with the decreased possibility of bringing the virus home and spreading it in our community. Changing the mask requirement will also deter some parents from allowing their child to attend in-person learning. Our goal should be to keep as many kids in classrooms as possible.
The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees will be holding a meeting on 4/15/2021 and will discuss whether to keep, modify or remove the masking policy. This discussion can lead to possible action that could change the current masking requirements.
The CDC and the TEA have not changed their recommendation of masking while at school. The TEA announced after the statewide mask mandate was lifted that the guidelines for masking were updated, but recommended that all districts should continue to enforce masks on campus. We feel that until these recommendations change, RRISD's policy should not change.
