Dear All,
https://newhamco-create.co.uk/en/projects/becktonparksmasterplan
This Beckton Parks Masterplan consultation either doesn’t reach / include many people or people, understandably, don’t have faith that it will make any difference.
You can add further ideas, thoughts and comments until 31/5/22.
Please also look back at Phase 2 and see how many independent comments there we’re supporting the reopening of a farm on the former site.
Note too, how, the summary/ interpretation of the contributions so far fail to mention this!
Cabinet Member James Asser, now also Deputy Mayor, who is ultimately the one responsible for the closure, said publicly in September that this petition was helpfully worded and would be taken into account. He said privately, with 2 witnesses, that if people wanted a farm, they could have a farm.
Today, StreetSpace, the consultancy employed to engage residents in the Beckton Parks Masterplan consultation , is leading a field trip with community representatives and Council officials to another City Farm and an ecological park with a view to discussing an “animal offer” within the BPMP spaces. Is this more tokenism?
Please continue to write to MPs, Councillors, the Mayor and the press, send public questions to Council and Cabinet, challenge Councillors on this issue at ward surgeries. That’s how you can still help, please.
It is still a high profile issue and, with everyone’s support, we can keep it high. The battle is not lost.
If you have contacts in private business who would be interested in sponsoring Newham City Farm, please contact us!
If you want to get involved, please email us on savenewhamcityfarm@gmail.com
Many thanks!
Best wishes,
Alison
