Stop Kempsey Council potentially degrading history of Carrai State Conservation Area
The issue
Kempsey Shire Council has been considering to relocate the Old Ruston Proctor Steam Engine at Daisy Plains locality (Carrai State Conservation Area) into Stuart Street, Kempsey. There are many Kempsey families who wish this should not happen because of its historical significance. This Steam Engine is a dynamic feature, a reminder of Daisy Plains township, which housed two hundred citizens during cedar-getting days. This feature is an essential part of the landscape, and is placed already exactly where it should be. To remove it degrades Daisy Plains, and will place the engine in a position that makes it an ideal target for graffiti. This engine has no shared meaning with Stuart Street. This is akin to moving Big Ben, Borobodur, or Angkor Wat to Kempsey. Places of historical significance are beautiful to visit, not to remove for the sake of convenience. Please dont let them McDonaldize this feature!
