“Robert F. Kennedy Jr., You Got Autism Wrong — Let Us Show You What’s Possible”
The Issue
Dear RFK Jr., Come Hear the Real Stories of Autism – Not the Myths
When public figures spread false narratives about autism, it hurts real people. This petition is a call for truth, dignity, and visibility — and an invitation to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to meet the individuals he’s spoken about.
I’m writing this as a mother — not just to share my story, but to speak for so many families like mine. My son Akhil is autistic and minimally speaking, but that hasn’t stopped him from achieving incredible things. He communicates by typing, he’s in college, he cooks, he writes reflections, and he’s learning skills that will one day help him contribute to the world in meaningful ways. When I heard Robert F. Kennedy Jr. say that autistic children “will never write a poem or hold a job,” it hurt — because that’s not just wrong, it’s harmful. Comments like that reinforce outdated beliefs and close doors that families like mine work so hard to open. What’s at stake here isn’t just dignity — it’s opportunity, independence, and the right to be seen for who you truly are. If we don’t speak up now, these myths will continue to shape public opinion, policy, and even the way schools and workplaces treat our children. But if we act together, we can shift the narrative. We can show the world what’s truly possible — not by theory, but by real stories of growth, talent, and resilience. Akhil and so many others are proving it every single day. Please join me in telling these stories. It’s time the world listens.
