I wanted to share a short update on where things stand with the River Mole Footbridge proposal and the discussions underway with a number of stakeholders  

Garsons Farm

We have had engagement with the directors of Garsons Farm and are grateful for their response.

Garsons have made clear that they do not support the creation of a new public footpath across their land, citing concerns around land use, business impact, and primarily, public safety.

We respect their position, and it is important to be clear that no assumptions are being made about access, routes, or outcomes at this stage.

Elmbridge Borough Council

I attended an Elmbridge Borough Council meeting recently in Hersham to formally raise a question on how a community-led proposal like this should progress. The feedback was helpful in clarifying that the next stage is about process and feasibility, rather than design or delivery.

Following that, I will be meeting with Simon Waugh, Deputy Leader of Elmbridge Borough Council, to explore the correct route forward and what a proportionate feasibility step could look like.

Local community support

I’ve also met with the Hersham Community Group, who were supportive of the idea and have agreed to place it on the agenda for their next meeting. This is an important step in ensuring the conversation remains balanced, local, and inclusive.  I am grateful for this group’s offer of support  

Petition progress

The petition is now nearing 1,000 signatures, which is a strong signal of local interest. Your continued support genuinely matters and helps keep the conversation moving forward constructively.
