Cyclists wheel in behind the bypass.

Local cyclists have been reaching out in support of our cause. A number cite the unsuitability of the current A6, pollution, and danger (I myself had a very nasty accident cycling down the route – carted off to hospital and with lasting injuries).

Susan Edge says:

“For us cyclists travelling down the A6 is dirty and dangerous. There is no room for a cycle lane and it’s polluted. The HGVs are scary. I completely understand why people don’t cycle this route.

A new road with a cycle and running lane would be bliss! Ironically it might encourage others to get out of their cars and reduce traffic”.

‘Si Clist’ A pseudonym! (It is a real person, I have their details) adds:

“The A6 leaving Disley has “cycle lanes” which are narrow, dangerous and usually blocked by parked cars”.

Elsewhere, on Twitter a cyclist has suggested that the Middlewood way could be utilised. Joining with a new cycle-way on our new road and the A555 would be great! Cyclists could travel in safety from High Lane and the High Peak to Macclesfield, Manchester Airport,and into Greater Manchester using the new Bee Lines routes.

It’s no surprise that cyclists (and indeed wannabe cyclists) relish the opportunity for a quieter A6 a new road with a properly thought out provision for cyclists (as seen on the new A555).
