Hello all 80,203 of you amazing people!
Yesterday, the government reestablished its commitment to ending tampon tax "as soon as legally possible". This is BIG news. It's the first time this government has done so formally in parliament since the most recent general election. BOOM!
Thank you Baroness Penn for asking the government "what plans they have to remove the application of VAT to tampons at the end of the transition period of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU", to which Lord Oulton said, "the Government will replace the 5% reduced rate of VAT with a zero rate as soon as it is legally able to do so".
As amazing as this commitment is, it simply isn't enough. We need to see real action. We need a change in policy.
Boris Johnson and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, please axe tampon tax now that we've left the EU!
Thank you and have a lovely weekend,
Laura :)
