Stop the spread of COVID-19 at Ripley's Canada

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is profiting from a health crisis.

COVID-19 is a massive problem in many parts of the world. Canada, for the most part, is teaming up and doing what we can to help limit the spread of the virus: self isolation, social distancing, etc.

The majority of tourist attractions in Toronto have all closed down for 2-4 weeks minimum. This includes: the AGO, the ROM, Scotiabank (Raptors), Rogers (Blue Jays), CN Tower (Ripley's NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR), and more. Many small & large businesses are closing their doors to do their part.

Ripley's in Toronto, Ontario stands alone here: they refuse to close.

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is using this crisis to increase their revenue. They have posted a (now deleted) statement that had over 150 comments urging them to reconsider. They quickly removed the post to hide this bad press. They encouraged guests to attend a 'jazz night', which is described as a night with 'live music paired with cash bars located throughout the aquarium' (source: the Ripley's website). There is no doubt this event brings in more people than the recommended limit of 250 people per event, and is even encouraging their attendees to drink & socialize.

Their general manager, Peter Doyle, had an interview with Cityline where he said, "we have hand sanitizers at entrances, exits". (Quote at 1:58 here)

It is extremely obvious at this point that Ripley's isn't open because they are "clean", as Doyle says in the above video (at 1:41), but are staying open to profit from being the only tourist attraction in Toronto open at this time.

The company is putting their financial status over the well-being of their guests and staff. It is a true shame.

Please sign this petition and let the management at Ripley's Aquarium of Canada know that this behaviour is unacceptable and needs to be dealt with.

Money should NEVER come above the health of a country or a company's employees & guests.
