Security officers have a responsibility to protect the public but unlike the Police they are only allowed to carry OC Spray or Batons for certain jobs. I am making this petition to change the law to make it mandatory so that ALL security officers are allowed to carry OC spray and batons for all security work. 

There have been a lot of knife attacks across Australia in recent times with members of the public getting killed or seriously injured. I strongly believe that the armed knife attacker in the Bondi shopping centre could have been stopped and or immobilized if the security officer had a OC spray. 

Security officers protect the public just as much as the Police do yet they have no defensive weapons to protect themselves or the public. The police on the other hand have guns, bullet proof vests, batons, OC spray and tasers.

All security officers in WA go through extensive security training to obtain their licence and I strongly believe that the laws should change so ALL security officers are allowed to carry both a baton and OC spray. 

Please sign this petition to encourage the WA state government to update the laws to help better protect the members of public and the security officers when in shopping centres and public events.
