Petition updatePledge to Support Rider AAUP on Picket Line Fall 2017Tentative Settlement Between AAUP and Rider
Rider Parents and Students Committee for Labor Fairness

Sep 2, 2017
This petition REMAINS ACTIVE! So please continue to sign and share.
There is a tentative settlement - see below the message from Rider AAUP.
Even though there is a tentative settlement, we continue to keep the petition active because there is potential for the proposed settlement to be turned down by either side.
We join Rider AAUP in this sentiment and congratulate those that stood on the side of labor fairness and justice - indeed it is likely that this petition and every other measure taken by students, staff, community, families, alumni - including those not directly impacted by the AAUP contract - helped convince administration to soften up enough its hardline stance so a tentative agreement can be reached.
This is the blueprint for the way forward for the Rider community. Hopefully the relationship between students and Rider AAUP will continue to grow - this is the only way to struggle forward for university democracy around every important matter that impacts students and faculty.
The solidarity picketing that had been announced through updates on this petition are hereby canceled. Thank you to those that planned to join on the announced date.
However, we will be scheduling a discussion on Westminster Campus - date and location to be announced on "Protecting the Brain Trust" of Westminster Choir College. There is danger that if the administration of Westminster is transferred to another institution, that the integrity of faculty could be imperiled by firings, by lack of respect for the current contract, by an attempt to end recognition of AAUP as the sole bargaining unit for Westminster faculty and represented staff. We will be organizing a discussion and inviting Rider AAUP to participate in what they see as the direction forward.
Meanwhile we continue to promote this petition which addresses the issue:

Meanwhile, stay tuned - we will continue to follow and update through the ratification process and the situation for Westminster faculty.
From AAUP site:
The AAUP would like to thank those of you that offered support through this process. Thank you to the students that worked diligently side by side with the AAUP to protect the quality of their education at Rider. There were many supporters planning to join us in informational picketing in the upcoming weeks. Obviously, those planned events are not necessary pending the ratification of the tentative contract. The AAUP pledges to continue the fight to protect the quality of education and the integrity of Rider University.
The AAUP also commits to stand with our WCC colleagues to ensure they are treated fairly and with respect during this uncertain time of transition.
Once again, thank you all for your support. #rideraaup
