Ask your Dorset MP to Support the Climate and Ecology Emergency Bill (CEE Bill)

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

If passed as an Act of Parliament the CEE Bill will ensure that this Government develops a strategy to protect our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.

The main elements of the CEE Bill in brief:

  • Focuses on reducing CO2 emissions to keep planetary heating down to 1.5 degrees
  • Sets out the requirements for conserving and restoring ecosystems and soils – protecting wildlife
  • Calls for a Citizens’ Assembly to help Government and empower Parliament to create the strategy to make it happen.

It had its 1st reading in Parliament in Sept 2020. To date 98 MPs (and counting) across 7 political parties have openly declared their support for the Bill.  We need more to pledge their support before it’s 2nd reading, scheduled for May.

This petition calls on the 5 Dorset MPs to protect our future; support the Bill now and vote for it when it returns to Parliament.

  • Sir Christopher Chope (Christchurch area inc. Verwood)
  • Richard Drax (South Dorset area inc. Swanage, Weymouth, Portland)
  • Simon Hoare (North Dorset area)
  • Chris Loder (West Dorset area)
  • Michael Tomlinson (Mid Dorset and North Poole area)

Other ways you can support the Bill

Time is not on our side. We are now in THE critical decade of human existence. Scientists have calculated the carbon budget that we have to live within, in order to have just a 66% chance of avoiding global warming in excess of 1.5C. That budget is 420 billion tonnes of CO2.

Whilst the Government has been making some movement towards recognising the emergency, the current Ten Point Plan is unlikely to slow down the effects of climate change or protect nature quickly enough. Only the CEE Bill will do this in time to secure a liveable world for future generations.
