Rewrite Stranger Things 5
The Issue
Stranger Things was my comfort show. It was the mysterious and ominous series that challenged the government, intertwined with a group of kids whose adventures were nothing short of thrilling. The complex narratives entwined with supernatural elements captivated me and millions of others, providing a world to escape into, sympathize with, and root for.
However, the writing in Stranger Things 5 is riddled with glaring plot holes and subpar storytelling. The direction taken in this latest season is a monumental departure from the captivating narratives and suspenseful storylines that drew us in and kept us eagerly waiting for more. By eliminating two young girls who endured lifetimes of abuse, the show has abandoned the opportunity to meaningfully progress their stories. Additionally, the character development that once felt genuine appears to have been disregarded, reducing beloved characters to mere shadows of their former selves.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Stranger Things was its ability to craft characters with depth and their own unique arcs. Each episode believed in the strength of the narrative and the respect for its characters' substantial growth. It aligned the audience emotionally and mentally with their battles. No longer is that the case. I genuinely believe that the Duffer brothers put together references of their own show and dumped them into ChatGPT for a script.
This show was a pivotal cultural touchstone for its depiction of the struggles children face against authoritarian entities while attempting to balance the supernatural with earthly challenges. Stranger Things' departure from these intricate storylines not only does a disservice to its preceding seasons but also disenchants the audience who have emotionally invested in this series.
I implore the Duffer Brothers and Netflix to recognize the shortcomings of Stranger Things 5 and take action to reclaim the integrity and brilliance that characterized the series. The show’s potential for concluding with a respectable and fulfilling narrative is vast, and revisiting the storyline with these aspects in mind will rekindle the spark and essence of what made it exceptional. Being lazy with your writing and having absolutely zero explanation for the plotholes YOU WROTE is unacceptable for the budget and amount of time you had.
By signing this petition, you're not just advocating for the restoration of a beloved series but also for storytelling that respects its characters, themes, and audience. Let us bring back the Stranger Things that remains a cornerstone of our cultural and emotional landscapes. Sign now and let’s demand a revision worthy of the legacy of Stranger Things.
