Hi all,
As of now, there is still no update. The facts remain the same- William Campbell has seen no penalty for the crime of taking a life, our family has not received answers, and there is no justice for Dwight (Alex) Bennett.
Today marks 3 months since Alex was murdered. We are closing in on 3 months since we said goodbye and saw his precious face in person for the very last time.
Time passes and William Campbell is alive, free. No restrictions on that freedom. Facing (potentially) only 2nd degree murder. We still do not know what happened that day. What we know is that William Campbell has an unhinged and concerning history that indicates 1st degree murder is more likely the proper penalty, but until we have the truth of that day, we will not know for certain. When someone faces 2nd degree murder (an extreme offense that shows a person has serious disregard for human life, acts recklessly, and in that moment of murdering another had intent to cause harm/kill- the difference between 2nd and 1st degree is that 1st must prove premeditation to murder) and is allowed for 3 months- only God knows how much longer- after the murder to be in society, continue their daily life with no restrictions, and interact with other people, there are other lives that are in danger. As a reminder, there was a conscious and intentional decision made to allow someone with little to no regard for human life to walk freely. This is outrageous. This is disgusting. This is not justice and it does not indicate that at some point in the future justice will properly be served at all.
Nearly 4000 people have read this story, thought for themselves, and agreed to sign. This petition serves to show that 4000 people, friends family and strangers alike SEE AND UNDERSTAND that this is not right. They have agreed to put their name on this petition to show support for the fact that William Campbell should have lost his right to freedom. I'm certain that if this petition continues to get the proper amount of exposure, that thousands more would agree. I would love it if one day, when the trial begins, to show a judge/jury that literally thousands of people are watching and do not agree with the way our system is serving its people. I would hope that this exposure would put pressure on officials to act and show that they have any morals at all. That they would care to prove they have more regard for the lives of others than William Campbell does.
Thank you for your support. Wholeheartedly. Nothing is overlooked or forgotten by our family, it never will be. Please continue to share this petition and help us fight for justice. We all do what we can with what we have, and for the moment, this is it. Be the change you want to see, advocate passionately and relentlessly for the things that matter to you. Thank you again.
