Revoke Nobel Peace Prize from María Corina Machado

The Issue

The Nobel Peace Prize is a global symbol of moral integrity, awarded to individuals whose contributions advance peace, democracy, and human dignity. Its authority rests not only on the achievements it recognizes, but on the values it consistently upholds—serving as a beacon of ethical leadership for the international community.

That authority has been called into question following Ms. María Corina Machado’s public decision to dedicate the Nobel Peace Prize to former U.S. President Donald Trump. President Trump’s record includes repeated attacks on democratic institutions, the rule of law, electoral legitimacy, and multilateral cooperation. His rhetoric and policy posture have increasingly reflected a worldview grounded in domination, coercive power, and spheres of influence—raising serious concerns about a return to colonial or neo-colonial thinking in global affairs. Such positions are fundamentally incompatible with the principles of peace, self-determination, and equality among nations that the Nobel Peace Prize has historically championed.

By publicly associating the Prize with a political figure whose actions and ideology contradict its core values, this dedication politicizes and distorts the message the Nobel Peace Prize is meant to convey. It risks transforming a universal moral recognition into a vehicle for political alignment, thereby undermining the Prize’s independence and credibility.

To preserve the integrity of the Nobel Peace Prize and reaffirm its commitment to peace and human dignity, the Nobel Committee should revoke this award. Taking such action would demonstrate that the Prize remains principled, unbiased, and insulated from political instrumentalization—safeguarding its distinguished legacy for future generations.

We therefore call on the Nobel Committee to act decisively in defense of the Prize’s moral authority and enduring global trust.
