WHY JCM OPPOSE FCAA-2023
1. Threat to the way of life and land holding system of the TRIBAL PEOPLE of Mizoram.
2. Threat to the FRAGILE ecosystem and Environment of the State. We lost too many forest.
3.The Forest Conservation Amendment Act (FCAA) 2023 poses significant concerns for Mizoram and its people. Here are some key issues:
Threats to Land Rights: The Act may infringe on the rights of the Mizo people enshrined in Article 371G of the Indian Constitution, which stipulates that no Act of Parliament relating to land ownership and transfer shall apply to Mizoram unless endorsed by the Assembly.
Exemption for Strategic Projects: The Act allows for forest land diversion for projects within 100 km of India's international borders without requiring forest clearance, raising concerns about environmental impact and infringement on tribal rights.
Impact on Unclassed Forests: A significant portion of Mizoram's forests are unclassed, and the Act's provisions may expose these areas to commercial exploitation.
