I, like many others, have faced numerous near-miss incidents on the road due to elderly drivers who struggle with vision and memory issues. These individuals, though deserving of our respect and care, pose a significant risk when behind the wheel. It's not just about my safety; it's about everyone's safety on the road.

According to a study by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety in 2019, older drivers (aged 70-79) are more likely than younger ones to be involved in crashes per mile driven. The risk is even higher for those aged 80 and above. This trend is expected to increase as baby boomers age.

Our aim is not to strip away their independence or dignity but rather ensure public safety. We propose that regular mandatory checks be implemented for drivers over a certain age so that those with deteriorating vision or memory can be identified early.
