The Issue

This petition urges a thorough investigation and the removal of Dr. Wahid Shaida, a suburban GP exposed as the leader of the extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir, to uphold the values of the NHS and maintain public confidence in the healthcare system. An ongoing investigation by the General Medical Council (GMC) is currently underway into Dr. Wahid Shaida's conduct. We urge the GMC to transfer this inquiry to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) to address the severity of his actions and to pursue the necessary steps for his removal from the National Health Service (NHS).

The revelation of Dr. Wahid Shaida's hidden identity and double life as Abdul Wahid, the UK head of Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT), raises critical questions about professional ethics, trust, and patient safety. Hizb ut-Tahrir, founded in 1953, is an international Islamist organization aiming to establish an Islamic Caliphate. HT has been banned in multiple countries for promoting radical ideologies, including its homophobic stance. Dr. Shaida's endorsement of extremism has raised concerns about the intersection of his views with medical principles, compromising patient safety and undermining the principles of the NHS.

Dr. Shaida celebrated the Hamas terror attack on October 7th, which left over 1400 Israeli victims dead, praising Hamas as 'brave mujahideen'—a term translating to 'warriors engaged in Jihad.' He commended them for delivering what he described as 'a very welcome punch on the nose' to the enemy. In the same month, Hizb ut-Tahrir openly called for a jihad against Israel on the streets of London. Additionally, during a Piers Morgan interview, Dr. Wahid unapologetically declared on British TV that being gay is a sin, directly addressing the LGBT community as sinners. Such expressions of support for both homophobia and acts of terrorism are not only reprehensible but also unequivocally indicate that Dr. Shaida is unfit to practice as a medical professional within the NHS. We believe that the intersection of extremist ideologies with a medical profession founded on principles of impartiality and care poses a serious threat to the values upheld by the NHS.

This petition is a call to action, recognizing the ongoing investigation by the General Medical Council (GMC) into Dr. Wahid Shaida's conduct. Considering the seriousness of the matter, we specifically advocate for his referral to a formal inquiry by a tribunal, under the jurisdiction of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). This course of action must result in significant consequences, leading to Dr. Shaida's removal from the NHS. It is our firm belief that the GMC and MPTS must take decisive steps to safeguard the integrity of the medical profession and ensure the safety and well-being of patients within the NHS.

By signing this petition, we call for accountability and the preservation of NHS values. It is crucial to take actions ensuring the safety and well-being of all patients and upholding the integrity of our healthcare system. Let's stress the significance of ethical conduct, condemning any support for homophobia, violence, and terrorism within our healthcare community.
