I attended Ridgewater College right after high school, and during my time there, the college had a thriving athletic program. Among the sports offered, the college football team stood out as one of the most popular and beloved by students like me. Attending football games was a cherished pastime, fostering a sense of community and school pride that united students, faculty, and the surrounding community. In 2018, Ridgewater College at the Willmar Campus made the regrettable decision to discontinue its football program despite maintaining other sports. This left a significant void, not only for the students and alumni but also for the entire community that rallied around the team during game days. Football is more than a sport; it's a tradition, a gathering space, and, importantly, an opportunity for students to develop leadership, teamwork, and discipline skills. Bringing back the football team at Ridgewater College in Willmar could revitalize the campus atmosphere and bolster college spirit. The positive economic impact from having a college football team cannot be overlooked either, as game days were bustling events that benefited local businesses.
