Nine Months Without a Single AITA or ITF Tournament is Nine Months Too Long.

Every Signature. Every Player. Every Dream.

A Public Petition to the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Chandigarh Administration

OUR COURTS. OUR PLAYERS. OUR RESPONSIBILITY.

For decades, Chandigarh has stood proudly as one of India’s premier tennis centres, producing national champions, international competitors and countless talented athletes who have represented the city and the country with distinction.

Today, that proud legacy is at a crossroads.

For the last nine months, Chandigarh has not hosted a single recognised AITA or ITF ranking tournament.

Nine months without recognised tournaments has meant nine months of lost opportunities for hundreds of aspiring tennis players.

Every missed tournament means:

* Lost AITA and ITF ranking opportunities.

* Reduced competitive exposure.

* Increased financial burden on parents.

* Extensive travel across India merely to compete.

* Interrupted player development.

* A setback to Chandigarh’s standing as one of India’s premier tennis destinations.

The players deserve better.

This campaign is not against any individual or institution.

It is a positive, constructive and player-centric initiative dedicated solely to protecting the interests of players and ensuring that recognised tournaments return to Chandigarh at the earliest.

Our objective is simple.

PLAYERS FIRST.

WHY THIS PETITION?

Following the Chandigarh Administration’s decision to terminate the lease granted to the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) over the Sector-10 Tennis Stadium after findings relating to subletting of government property, Chandigarh’s recognised tennis ecosystem entered a period of administrative uncertainty. It is also publicly understood that proceedings before the GST and Income Tax authorities are pending, and that the Chandigarh Sports Department has issued show-cause notices concerning recovery arising from the previous management of the stadium. These developments have created a governance vacuum in the administration of recognised tennis tournaments in Chandigarh.

While these proceedings are before the competent authorities and will be decided strictly in accordance with law, the unfortunate consequence is that the players have become the biggest sufferers.

The Chandigarh Sports Department deserves appreciation for continuing to organise local competitions and keeping tennis activities alive. However, these tournaments do not award AITA or ITF ranking points.

As a result, players from Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and neighbouring regions are compelled to travel across the country merely to participate in recognised tournaments. This places an enormous financial, logistical and emotional burden upon players and their families.

The careers of an entire generation of tennis players should never be placed on hold because of administrative uncertainty.

The time to act is now.

WHY AN AD HOC COMMITTEE?

The Tennis Professionals Action Committee (T-PAC), together with players, parents, coaches and stakeholders, respectfully believes that the immediate constitution of an independent Ad Hoc Committee by the All India Tennis Association (AITA), in consultation with the Chandigarh Administration, is the most practical, transparent and player-centric interim solution.

An Ad Hoc Committee would immediately:

✅ Restore confidence in Chandigarh tennis.

✅ Facilitate the immediate resumption of recognised AITA tournaments.

✅ Work towards restoring ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments.

✅ Ensure uninterrupted ranking opportunities for junior, professional and senior players.

✅ Coordinate effectively with the Chandigarh Administration for smooth functioning of tennis activities at the Sector-10 Tennis Stadium.

✅ Provide transparent, neutral and accountable interim governance.

✅ Protect the interests of players until a permanent governance framework is established.

✅ Restore faith among players, parents, coaches and all stakeholders.

This is a constructive solution focused entirely on player welfare and the revival of Chandigarh tennis.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Chandigarh has historically been recognised as one of India’s leading centres of tennis excellence.

Without recognised AITA and ITF tournaments:

* Young players lose valuable ranking opportunities.

* Parents incur substantial travel and accommodation expenses.

* Coaches struggle to provide players with meaningful competitive pathways.

* Local academies lose opportunities to develop talent.

* Chandigarh risks losing its identity as a premier tennis destination.

* Future generations of players suffer through no fault of their own.

The future of Indian tennis begins with protecting its players.

OUR PRIMARY APPEAL

We respectfully urge the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Chandigarh Administration to act immediately by:

✅ IMMEDIATELY CONSTITUTING AN AD HOC COMMITTEE FOR CHANDIGARH TENNIS TO ENABLE THE EARLIEST RESTORATION OF AITA & ITF TOURNAMENTS.

Further, we respectfully request:

✅ Immediate restoration of AITA-recognised tournaments.

✅ Early revival of ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments.

✅ Transparent, accountable and player-centric interim governance.

✅ Protection of ranking opportunities for young players.

✅ Close coordination between AITA and the Chandigarh Administration for uninterrupted tennis activities.

✅ Establishment of a long-term governance framework based upon transparency, accountability and athlete welfare.

OUR VISION

We believe Chandigarh can once again become one of India’s finest tennis centres.

Our vision is a future where:

* Players always come first.

* Governance is transparent and accountable.

* AITA and ITF tournaments are conducted regularly.

* Young athletes receive equal opportunities to excel.

* Coaches and academies work together

 for player development.

* Parents have confidence in the system.

* Chandigarh regains its rightful place as a centre of tennis excellence.
