The Issue

Our vibrant community of young skateboarders in Richmond, MO, deserves a safe and functional space to skate, learn, and grow — now, not years down the line.

Cevie Due Skatepark has long been a cherished gathering spot where youth can express themselves, build confidence, and form lifelong bonds. However, the current condition of the park — with slick metal ramps, sketchy lips, and scattered rocks — poses a growing risk of injury. It’s no longer safe or sufficient for the number of users it attracts daily.

Although the City of Richmond’s 2025 Parks Master Plan includes improvements to Cevie Due Park, including skatepark expansion, these updates are currently forecasted for the 5–10 year range (see pages 56–59 of the plan: Richmond Parks Master Plan). That timeline is too far off for a space that sees such frequent youth use and is in urgent need of repair.

Well-maintained skateparks significantly reduce injuries by offering safe, properly designed environments (Source: American Sports Builders Association). In addition, they serve as free, accessible outlets for physical activity and mental well-being — something our youth desperately need more of.

We urge the City of Richmond to prioritize Cevie Due Skatepark improvements sooner, including:

 • Resurfacing the gravel parking lot

 • Repairing damaged ramps and structures

 • Installing shade, seating, signage, and water access

 • Considering expansion to meet current demand

Funding can come from the city’s existing $494,000 capital improvements budget or through external grants such as The Skatepark Project or Missouri ORLP.
