There is good news and bad news:

Good news: As I walked by the club this morning I saw some fellows dismantling a gazebo and seeming to put the it into a U-Haul along with their belongings. It's the first active sign I've seen of members taking the city seriously and vacating 101 Humber Valley Road as directed.

Bad news: Most members seem to be ignoring the city's notice to vacate and are acting as defiant and belligerent as they have been since 2019. They are claiming on social media someone is spreading lies about the club and thus poisoning public opinion leading to their lease coming to an end. This in spite of the fact when I walked by this morning they still had the section of the woodlot they illegally cleared fenced off and are using it as JetSki storage. This in spite of the fact that the shoreline is still cluttered with gazebos that should not have been built on hardscape that to my knowledge they should not have laid (as they are a private organization the city cannot share the specific communications it has had with the club but the club is more than free to do so, I've yet to see the communications the club had with TRCA or the city regarding it's expansion). The vague messages around how the club promises to proceed in the future also don't provide much confidence in the clubs claims to want to work with the community. They will phase out JetSkis (by when)... they will ban corporate JetSki operators from the property (considering the club allowed the property to be used as the homebase for a JetSki rental outfit last season it matters how this is defined)... note they did not say they would ban JetSkis from the property but only from using their wet-docks (does this mean JetSki members will store their PWC onsite then overwhelm the public launch site in Kingsmill park).

I'm not sure how pointing out the situation on the ground counts as spreading lies. What I do know is that evading taking responsibility for the clubs past actions & behaviors and by being vague about future plans the club is doing itself no favors.

I'm hopeful the city will continue to work with those club members willing to contact them to help members find alternative clubs for their boats in time for them to enjoy the 2026 boating season.

I'm also hopeful members will understand they are not the victims of some evil conspiracy to remove the club from 101 Humber Valley Road and instead come to understand they are simply experiencing the consequences of the club's actions and behavior toward community members for the past several years. I do understand some members are not directly responsible for those actions & behaviors but they had a duty to speak up so those actions & behaviors would end.

PS the club is currently trying to garner support via a petition. It would be cool if we can continue to grow our petition so the city understand there is widespread support for the club closing.
