Revitalize Chorlton: Promote Economic Development and Community Growth

The Issue

My family and I, like many others, are proud residents of Chorlton. With 650 students on Oswald Road alone, Chorlton is a dynamic community. We want it to be a fun, thriving community. However, the current state of things stands in stark contrast to our collective aspirations.

Chorlton, which was once a bustling community, has been left behind by successive development plans. The once vibrant shops have shuttered, and buildings have been derelict for far too long. Yet, there's no information on why these plans have failed or why development has always passed us by.

Meanwhile, the city centre is flourishing with development. Our suburban community deserves investment, management and care. Improvement in our infrastructure will not only stimulate economic development, but it will also enhance our social lives and instill a greater sense of community pride.

We deserve fairness and transparency. We must press local administrators and developers to prioritize Chorlton, openly communicate their plans, and execute them in a timely manner. Chorlton Cross consultation closed in December 2023, the Coop Funeral building was sold to Southway but no works have begun, 23 Manchester Road has been derelict for years and Chorlton baths has only just been knocked down after closing in 2015.

For our children, for our community's future, let's fight for the reestablishment of a thriving, exciting Chorlton, or at least a B & M bargains...

Please, sign our petition today and help bring Chorlton back to life.
