Dear Supporters,
We are pleased to announce that our petition to help designate the Joburg Art Gallery as a host for a G20 event in 2025 has now surpassed 2 500 signatures.
We extend our sincere gratitude to each of you for your support, and we particularly thank the nearly 80 individuals who have directly backed the petition on the platform.
With the main G20 Summit scheduled for November 2025, over 11 months remain to strengthen this initiative.
The G20 is a critical platform for global economic dialogue, representing significant portions of the world's population and economy.
South Africa will host around 130 G20 meetings from December 2024 to November 2025, offering numerous opportunities to showcase intent and sustained commitment to Johannesburg's inner-city revitalisation.
Hosting a G20 event at the Joburg Art Gallery would not only demonstrate government's dedication to revitalising Johannesburg, but also require multi-stakeholder partnerships to urgently help preserve the Gallery's collection in line with local and international norms and standards.
Such initiatives are also important to help ensure that the institution and its entire collection is revived as an accessible, inclusive cultural landmark for people from all walks of life, serving as a platform and springboard for new generations of diverse, talented South African artists and becoming a must-see destination for locals, visitors and tourists from around the world.
We urge you to share this petition within your network to maintain momentum, and demand urgent action.
As South Africa's Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, stated at the G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting on 11 December 2024, quoting an African proverb:
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
Let's go far together.
We appreciate your continued support and participation.
Kind regards,
CSN
