Revise Current Law HB 598 & Demand Accountability and Protect Animals in Shelters
The Issue
After conducting further research, a very similar bill to the one that I am proposing was passed in 2023 in Texas. A link to an article describing this law, HB 598 (States that no animal will be placed in a known animal abusive home) And Based on this we are petitioning Shannon Sims Previous Director @ S.A.A,C.S. & Michael Shannon Current Director @ S.A.A.C.S.San Antonio Animal Shelter on the basis of this current law Shannon Sims DID in fact know the adopters he was handing Love over to as previous animal abusers.Love lost her life because someone in charge of a facility at a animal shelter that should protect our innocent animals made a decision to break the law.This is totally unacceptable & we as petition signers demand an investigation into the death of an innocent animal in the care of Shannon Sims. Shannon Sims was the decision maker in Loves case.We are asking based on The Freedom Of Informations Act.An innocent animal lost her life brutally due to a shelter director that made not only wrong but illegal decisions on behalf of Love & there must be accountability.
This petition stems from a deep, personal concern for our innocent animals, a concern rooted in a heartbreaking story of a dog named Love. Love was a beautiful soul with tag #A-674349 at the San Antonio Animal Care Services. She was rehomed in May 2023 after a rescue tried to save her, only to be found a year later in a junk yard, mortally wounded and suffering. This innocent animal lost her life on May 11th on the euthanization order given by Shannon Sims: in a place supposed to provide refuge, the same place from which she was adopted - the San Antonio Animal Care Services.
Love's life was a testament to the pain and suffering endured by so many animals who are mistreated, neglected, and overlooked in our society. Now, we channel our grief and indignation into a movement for lasting change. We demand an investigation into the San Antonio Animal Shelter, probing any policies, decisions, or actions that may have contributed to Love's tragic end.
Furthermore, we call upon The Texas Humane Legislation Network to carry our plea for Love's Law into their 2025 Legislative Meeting. To amend the current law to be updated & be sure that it is enforced.This law would be designed to prevent neglect and cruelty to animals, ensuring more stringent undertakings to monitor the welfare of animals in our shelters and homes, and harsher penalties for mistreatment,specific to animal shelters.
And my plea is also to all of the animal advocates out there...how much longer are we going to continue to allow shelters to kill innocent animals? The time to make change is NOW The time to band together is NOW There is strength in numbers & there is change with "action".Otherwise there is going to be thousands more Loves out there. We owe it to Love to get her Justice...WE ARE LOVE WE ARE HER VOICE use it!
This is not just animal welfare. This is justice, a test of our humanity. Let's remember Love. Let's act for Love. Please, sign and share the petition for Love's Law.Do it for Love & all of the up coming Love's that will be treated wrongly by such shelters if our current laws are not enforced.
"My Letter To Love"
I did not know you in your life,I so wish I had ...you would of been so very loved.But I love you so dearly in your death.I think of you often & my heart breaks to imagine what hell you went through at the hands of your abusers....And San Antonio Animal Care Services are not any better than your abusers.To release you into the home of the very people who abused you is totally appalling & unacceptable.There has to be accountability for your pain,suffering & death. I cannot & will not try to pretend it didn't happen.It did happen & I have dedicated the rest of my life to see to it that those responsible will be held accountable & to see that no one ever forgets you.I know it will not bring you back but I can be sure that shelters are not releasing animals into known abusive homes.This must stop.Your death will be an example for shelters to be more responsible to where they are placing animals.Your death will be used as an example for what shelters should NOT do.Many people love you,it's just a shame that you had to lose your life for things to change.But I believe you are in heaven flying free of any pain or abuse.It is not for us to judge, but one day those abusers will be judged by someone far greater than us...
And in your name we will attempt to get a law passed so no other animal goes through what you did,if passed it will be called "Love's Law".
Rest in peace Love you are now our angel.I hope you can feel the love so many have for you & how much you are missed, keep your little light shining for the world to see.It will light the way for those that go on after you.
