Dear All. A lot has happened since my last update a week ago. Firstly, I have to announce that we are climbing up steadily with the signatures. Currently the total stands at an amazing 89,340! The petition has been running for exactly 1 month and we are so close to the 90,000 mark! THANK YOU ALL once again.
Secondly, you might have seen the various press coverage during this past week reporting on the campaigning for stricter sentences for killer drivers. The national papers, news programmes and radio interviews have highlighted the topic.
Last Tuesday, The Prime Minister Theresa May indicated that there could be ‘a major overhaul of dangerous driving laws’. This is certainly good news for everyone who is busy campaigning at the moment. In her question time, she mentioned a young victim from her own constituency called Bryony Hollands. Bryony, who was 19 years of age, died after being hit by a car in Nottingham last year. Another tragic and heartbreaking story. I met Bryony’s father, Mark, back in July at the launch of the ‘Roads To Justice’ campaign organized by the charity Brake. Bryony was another beautiful and gifted young person who lost her life cruelly in an instant, and Mark’s words echoed our own thoughts when we met him. Please take a look at the link below for the report by the Telegraph:

‘Good Morning Britain’ also featured the topic with another grieving parent. Major Gilbey bravely talked about the loss of his son and the injustice of the sentencing (with Claire Perry MP by his side). Like us, they now have ‘a life sentence'. They are also campaigning for stricter sentences for killer drivers. This feature included Miriam’s photo and referred to her story. Please see the link below:

Finally, I have just found out tonight that there will be a debate on ‘Penalties for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving' tomorrow morning at the Westminster Hall. Claire Perry MP has called a debate at 11am (Tuesday September 13th). She is pressing for changes in sentencing. See Link below:

In the meantime, we shall carry on with our ‘Moment for Miriam’ campaign. I have already drafted a letter to Theresa May PM and hopefully we can meet with our own MP, Mark Williams in the very near future. I shall keep you all informed.
Thank you for your time in reading this rather long update. Please continue to pass the message on. We are very grateful to you all.
Kind Regards,
Ceinwen, Richard & girls
